SOCIAL SCIENCE UNIT 3: EUROPE


 
 
 
Europe is the continent where we live. It's called the Old Continent. It's made of 46 different countries. Its biggest country is Russia and its smallest country is the Vatican City. There are over 200 languages spoken in Europe.
 
  1. PHYSICAL EUROPE
 
Europe is bathed by ONE OCEAN and SEVERAL SEAS: the Atlantic Ocean and seas such as the Mediterranean Sea or the North Sea.
 
The most important rivers in Europe are:
 
  • Volga. The longest river in Europe. It's located in Russia.
  • Danube. The second longest river in Europe. It flows through eight countries such as Germany, Serbia and Austria.
  • Elbe. It flows through Germany and the Czech Republic.
 
The most important mountain ranges in Europe are:
 
  • Ural Mountains. They are the natural border between Europe and Asia.
  • Alps. The highest mountains in Europe. They are located in Italy and Switzerland.
  • Pyrenees. They are the natural border between France and Spain.
 
In Europe, there are also two big lakes:
 
  • Black Sea
  • Caspian Sea
 
 
    2.    POLITICAL EUROPE
 
 
Europe is made up of 44 countries. Some of the most important ones are: Germany, Spain, Russia, France and the UK. Do you know any others?


They speak Spanish in Spain. The capital city is Madrid.

They speak English in the UK. The capital city is London.

They speak French in France. The capital city is Paris.

They speak Russian in Russia. The capital city is Moscow.

They speak German in Germany. The capital city is Berlin.
