SOCIAL SCIENCE UNIT 2: THE FIVE CONTINENTS


Continents are large land masses separated by oceans. They are groups of countries.

There are five continents: America, Asia, Europe, Africa and Oceania. America is divided into North America, Central America and South America. Europe and Asia form a big land mass called Eurasia.

There is also a special continent: Antarctica. It is not made of land, but of ice.



There are also five important oceans in the world: Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, Arctic Ocean and Southern Ocean.


In this unit, we will learn about the continents and the most important countries in each of them!


  • ASIA
    is the largest continent. Most of it is located on the Northern Hemisphere.
    The most important mountain range in Asia is the Himalayas. The Everest is the highest mountain in the world.
    Some important countries are: China, Russia, Japan and India.
  • AMERICA is divided into three parts: North America, Central America and South America. The most important mountain ranges are the Rocky Mountains and the Andes. The Amazon river has the greatest flow in the world and it is the reason the rainforest is so rich. Some important countries are: United States and Brazil.
