Energy is a property of matter. It is the ability to do work. It is the way things change and move. Energy makes matter change.
We can fly a kite because of the wind energy. We can make our toys work because their batteries have got energy.
We can fly a kite because of the wind energy. We can make our toys work because their batteries have got energy.
There are many types of energy. We are going to study four of them:
1. Thermal energy. It's energy caused by heat. Heat is a high temperature in matter. For example, fire has got thermal energy.
2. Electrical energy. It is caused by electricity. Electricity can be obtained from the sun heat, wind, fossil fuels, etc. Most machines at our homes work with electrical energy: TVs, computers, fridges...
3. Mechanical energy. It's the energy of motion. A force moves an element.
4. Light energy. It's energy caused by light. It can be converted into other forms of energy. It's the only type of energy we can see. Objects like the Sun have light energy.
Energy can be transformed from one type to another.
For instance, when we use a hair dryer, electrical energy becomes termal energy.
Solar panels also transform termal energy into electrical energy.
Some materials are energy conductors. Some are energy insulators. Conductors transmit heat very well, but insulators don't transmit it well.
